Houses and aspects, in plain language
A simple glossary for the unfamiliar words in a reading.
Houses
Twelve areas of life in a chart. They add context such as relationships, work or learning. Houses are different from zodiac signs.
Chart lines · Aspects
Lines showing angular relationships between planets. They connect planetary themes. A line’s colour alone does not mean good or bad.
Degrees · °
A position within a zodiac sign, from 0° to just under 30°. It is not a score or a measure of luck.
Retrograde · Rx
A planet temporarily appears to move backwards from Earth. Its actual orbit has not reversed.
Orb
The difference from an exact aspect angle. An actual angle of 122° compared with 120° has an orb of 2°.
What is a zodiac sign?
Here, zodiac signs are twelve equal sections of the Sun’s apparent path. Their boundaries differ from the constellations in the night sky.
